child supportChild support in the state of Michigan is determined by a child support formula that accounts for the incomes of both parents. Although these guidelines are strict, they can be modified if either party's income changes significantly.
Attorney Exton helps clients with a wide range of child support issues. Sometimes an ex-spouse will attempt to hide income to prevent their child support payments from increasing. We also represent clients who are seeking post-judgment modifications of parenting plans and enforcement of court orders ratifying those plans. We can help you establish a long-term parenting plan by providing honest legal counsel and, if necessary, aggressive representation in court. |
grandparent custodyAlthough a divorce is technically the legal separation of two spouses and the dissolution of their marriage, in reality the families of both spouses can be impacted by a divorce.
Grandparents in particular may find that a divorce can mean the end of any ability to see their grandchildren. While some states have, in the past, given grandparents some ability to ask the court for visitation rights, Michigan has traditionally been hesitant to grant a grandparent visitation rights, especially when one or both parents do not want a grandparent to see their child. When the parents and grandparents agree as to the frequency/type of visitation between the child and the grandparents, courts will generally not interfere with such an agreement. However, where grandparents want visitation rights and one parent does not want to allow visitation, Michigan courts will need to decide what, if any, visitation rights to award the grandparents in accordance with the child's well-being. |
Attorney Exton wants to help you reach a positive outcome as soon as possible.
Often, that can be accomplished through mediation, where both spouses negotiate directly with each other and keep the terms of the divorce under their control, rather than a judge's.
If one spouse is uncooperative or hostile, litigation may be the only option.

COLLABORATIVE DIVORCE When separating spouses are unwilling to make concessions or work together, bitter disputes and hostile negotiations often result. However, not all divorces end this way. Sometimes, divorce can be an amicable process, resolved quickly through mutual divorce agreement.
An uncontested divorce, sometimes referred to as a collaborative divorce has many advantages. Although uncontested divorce is not always a viable option, it does have many advantages over traditional divorce litigation in reducing costs and stress. |
