There are two different classes of crimes in Ohio, felonies and misdemeanors. Misdemeanors are less serious in nature and carry less of a fine and smaller incarceration periods. There are five classes of misdemeanors. They include:

  1. Minor Misdemeanor (MM): There is no jail term and the maximum fine the court can impose is $150.00.
  2. Fourth Degree Misdemeanor (M4): up to thirty days in jail and up to a $250.00 fine.
  3. Third Degree Misdemeanor (M3): up to sixty days in jail and up to a $500.00 fine.
  4. Second Degree Misdemeanor (M2): up to ninety days in jail and up to a $750.00 fine.
  5. First Degree Misdemeanor (M1): up to one hundred eighty days in jail and up to a $1000.00 fine.
There are five different classes of felonies. They include:
  1. 5th degree felony (F5): punishable by up to a $2,5000 fine, five (5) years community control, 6 - 12 months prison
  2. 4th degree felony (F4): punishable by up to a $5,000 fine, five (5) years community control, 6 - 18 months prison;
  3. 3rd degree felony (F3): punishable by up to a $10,000 fine, five (5) years community control, 1 - 5 years prison;
  4. 2nd degree felony (F2): punishable by up to a $15,000 fine, fifteen (15) years community control, 2 -8 years prison;
